PERSONAL EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY PAPER 2
PERSONAL EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The Purpose of Technology in Education
With the explosion of technology in the early 80’s,
technology burst on the educational scene as a new way of teaching,
researching, writing, and collaborating.
Although the collaboration took a while to catch on, the changes in the
rest of education were welcomed. The purpose of technology in education at that
time became a way to condense information into one locale, make research easier
and faster, as well as teach innovatively.
In today’s world, although, all of the above hold true, technology has
taken on a new role. It has become part
of our educational system because of the aid it gives both general education
and special education students in learning (5 Reasons to Incorporate
Technology, 2017).
Technology impacts our students
learning because it is their modus operandi.
They live digitally, and if school is not digitally acclimated, then the
students are checked out. They are not
engaged in learning or interaction with others. With technology in the
classroom, students can engage in chat rooms or blogs, and resources for them
are easily accessible. Gone are the days
of “not having enough textbooks.” With a
large majority of schools having 1-1 digital access, students no longer need to
have a physical textbook. Also, for special education students, teachers can
individualize their program of study to meet the IEP’s of the students (Lynch,
2017).
Biblical Defense for Technology in
the Classroom
Biblically, we should take up the
cause of technology in the classroom because we have been entrusted with this
knowledge that will help our students. In
the book of Luke it states, “for whom much is given, much will be required.” (ESV
Bible, 2001/2022, Luke 12:48). This verse alone compels us to share the
technological knowledge with our students because we are held responsible for doing
so. Another verse that comes to mind is James
4:17 which states, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it,
to him it is sin (ESV Bible, 2001/2022, Jam 4:17). If we have the power of the knowledge of how
digital learning can help our students, we must share this with them. Thirdly, the biblical principle found in 2
Timothy 2:2 of passing down truth to others applies here because our students
can pass on this information to others. (ESV Bible, 2001/2022, II Timothy 2:2).
PERSONAL EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY 3
Approach in the Classroom
As a professional in the
educational world, these reasons compel us to incorporate technology into our classroom.
Our students have been entrusted into our care for a short amount of time, and
we need to teach them all the tools that will help them succeed in life.
Therefore, in my classroom, students will have access to technology, will be
taught how to use it, and the value of it in their studies. For example, when they study for their exams,
I put study guides in a Google drive so that they can have access to it whether
at school or at home. Also, we play
review games using technology to help them engage with the curriculum
more. Using technology in this way
enhances their education by capitalizing on the way they learn.
